Allundé … Singing with the heart … lifting the spirit
Allundé is an African/Swahili word that loosely translates as blessing or grace and this is the name taken by the women’s community singing group based in Foynes County Limerick.
The group was formed by Limerick County Council Arts Office in the spring of 2007 and is directed by community singer Tembre de Carteret. A nucleus of 20 women make up Allundé, and all inspired by Tembre’s wonderful passion for song, sing a repertoire of songs that are joyful and spiritually uplifting. With wonderful varying harmonies and simple but meaningful lyrics that can evoke images of walking the African plains or the joy of the birth of a child, Allundé have sang to very appreciative audiences at a number of events in the county, including International Women’s Day and Lough Gur Summer Solstice festival.
Allundé is always welcoming of new members and meet every Tuesday night in Foynes Flying Boat Museum from 7.30 to 9.00 pm, September to May.
