County Limerick Youth Theatre



Co. LYT – County Limerick Youth Theatre is the umbrella body for Youth Theatre established by Limerick County Council Arts Office.  There are now 3 branches of Co. LYT working under drama facilitators Janette Madigan and Fiona Quinn. 

Lough Gur Youth Theatre
Lough Gur Youth Theatre meets for weekly workshops on Wednesday evening 6.30 to 8.30 at the Honey Fitz Theatre Lough Gur facilitated by dramatist Fiona Quinn.  At present the company is in rehearsal on the play ‘Men Should Weep’ which will be staged on April 19th and 20th at the Honey Fitz.  The Lough Gur group travelled recently to Cork to attend a performance of Grafitti Youth Theatre and also attended the performance or Romeo and Juliet by the Abbeyfeale Youth Theatre.

Abbeyfeale Youth Theatre
The Abbeyfeale branch of Co. LYT meets every Thursday from 4 to 6 in the Glorách Theatre Abbeyfeale.  This branch is facilitated by Janette Madigan and the group have just finished a production of Romeo and Juliet.  They played to packed houses on March 6th and 7th.  Preparations are now under way for the production of ‘Nones on the Run’ which will be performed on May 9th and 10th.

Rathkeale Youth Theatre
With the opening of Rathkeale Arts Centre in January, Co. LYT has expanded into the town of Rathkeale and environs.  Janette Madigan the drama facilitator is busy recruiting new members and has given a number of drama taster workshops in the local post primary schools.  The Youth Theatre meets every Tuesday from 4.30 to 6 o’clock.
