County Limerick Youth Theatre



Co. LYT – County Limerick Youth Theatre

The Co. Limerick Youth Theatre (Co.LYT) is facilitated by dramatist in residence Fiona Quinn, and assisted by dance and drama facilitator Lisa Cahill.  Established in 2006 the Co.LYT is organised and funded by The County Arts Office.  The objective of the Co.LYT is to introduce young people aged 14 to 18 to all aspects of theatre.  A vibrant active youth theatre body meets on Tuesday evening 6.30 to 8.30 pm in the Honey Fitz Theatre, Lough Gur.  The Co.LYT is affiliated to NAYD (National Association of Youth Drama) and participates in many of their events.  Co.LYT stages two plays annually also engage in film making participates in a wide variety of workshops and attends seminars and youth theatre festivals.  At present having completed a Shakespearian Summer School the youth theatre is now working on Hamlet, which will be performed in February. 

The following are some of their productions:
• The Voyage of the Orphans – Film & Play devised by youth theatre members focusing on emigration from and immigration to Ireland (co-funded by Léargas and Limerick County Council) 
• X-Factory
• Men should Weep
