County Limerick Youth Choir



Major Prize for County Limerick Youth Choir

Flushed with the success of their recent prize in the Limerick Sacred Music Festival, the County Limerick Youth Choir is now again the recipient of a major award. 
At the Navan Choral Festival on Friday May 7th the County Limerick Youth Choir took first place in the competition National Youth Choir of the Year. This comes just a couple of months after winning the Youth Section in the Limerick Festival. 

 


The Youth Choir was established in September 2006 by the County Arts Office for young people who enjoy singing classical and contemporary choral music.  The youth choir is made up of young people aged 16 to 22 years.  The County Limerick Youth Choir meets each Saturday morning in the Council Chamber of County Hall from 11 am to 1 pm.  To date the choir has participated in a number of competitions and events and had a very successful trip to Vienna in December where they proved themselves to be wonderful ambassadors for County Limerick.  Recently the choir participated in the Limerick Festival of Church Music, achieving second place in the Youth Choir category and wining Best Limerick Choir category.

Activities:

The County Limerick Youth Choir made their debut performance in St. Mary’s Cathedral on December 14th 2006.  After Christmas the choir has been working very hard putting in extra rehearsals for Feis Maitiú in Cork.  We are delighted to announce that the choir in its first competition outing won first prize at Fesh Maitiú.
