Limerick County Council is the building control authority for County Limerick and the Building Standards section is responsible for enforcing the Building Regulations. Our work protects the general public, including people who are buying new houses. We are constantly seeking to ensure that standards are maintained in County Limerick, and we do this in a hands-on way, by visiting and inspecting building sites.
As far as possible, we try to solve problems on the spot by discussing them with the builder to find an agreed solution. Occasionally, however, we serve enforcement notices, which legally oblige builders and developers to comply with the building regulations. In certain cases, we can and do prosecute. As well as inspecting buildings during construction, we have the authority to examine documents, drawings or any other material relevant to the work.
