The title Fire & Rescue Service covers a broad range of functions ranging from Fire & Rescue cover to Fire Prevention. Fire cover throughout the County is provided by Retained Firefighters, i.e. firefighters who work their own careers and are summoned for emergency duties through a paging system. They are based among 6 fire stations spread across the County.
Overall Management and Adminstration of the Service, Fire Prevention and certain Building Control functions is carried out by Fire Officer and Adminstrative staff based at County Hall, Dooradoyle.
