The Council's Environmental Awareness Officer, actively promotes positive Environmental Action throughout the County. The Awareness Officer works in tandem with schools, community groups and members of the public to encourage them to reduce, reuse and recycle waste.
The level of interest in waste minimisation and effective waste management has dramatically increased in recent years and diverting waste from landfill is one of the greatest Environmental challenges facing our Country. The Environment Section promote Environmental Awareness through education and information programmes.
We hope that this page provides you with the information you require and if you have suggestions or comments please e-mail litter@limerickcoco.ie or contact the Environment Section at 061 49 62 64.
Stop Food Waste
Food waste costs on average each Irish household €700 a year. Some food waste gets composted but an awful lot of it ends up in our landfill bin and is buried in the ground: when it’s landfilled it releases methane gas which contributes to climate change.
Food waste CAN be avoided. The first step is to learn more about what we are throwing out, then we can do something about it. Click on this link to find our more about the national campaign to Stop Food Waste
