Household Battery Recycling

Batteries can be very easily recycled.

All retailers of batteries must “take back” waste batteries of a type they sell.  No purchase necessary. Battery boxes should be available at retail outlets to facilitate the public.  These boxes are provided by European Recycling Platform (ERP) who will also arrange collection from the retailer upon request.

For more information on battery recycling please  visit:http://www.batteriesback.ie/

Batteries are also accepted for recycling at the following Recycling Centres in County Limerick:

Mungret Recycling Centre
Kilmallock Recycling Centre
Newcastle West Recycling Centre

Many schools have now received a battery recycling box from the European Recycling Platform and pupils are collecting batteries for recycling as part of the green school's programme.   Check with your local school to see if you can drop off your batteries there as well.

If you use a lot of batteries for toys or household appliances or personal equipment such as digital cameras, why not consider investing in a rechargeable batteries & a recharger? Initially the cost is more expensive than single use batteries, but the batteries can be recharged over and over which is better for the environment and will save you money over time.
