Limerick County Council's Horticultural Section is involved in the following activities.
1. Maintain approximately 350 acres of lawn grass in 363 estates and open spaces which are cut 32 times per annum.
2. Maintain the following Amenity Areas in County Limerick.
Clare Glens. Adare Town Park + River Bank Walk. Lough Gur. The Demesne, Newcastle West. Castletroy Neighbourhood Park. Croom River Walk. 3. Control/handling of herbicides for use by the Council.
4. Oversee tree felling under licence.
- Provide Advice on Tree Felling of Roadside Trees.
5. Oversee the planting of roadside verges ( trees/shrubs ).
6. Advise Communities Councils on landscaping for the Tidy Towns competition.
7. Grasscutting and hedgecutting works on National Primary and National Secondary roads.
8 Clean-up of illegally dumped materials at litter blackspots.
9. Distribution of trees during National Tree Week.
10. Judging of Garden and Estate Competitions.
11. Operating Mungret Green Waste Facility for the production of compost produce. This material is distributed to members of the public at the Council’s three Civic Amenity Centres at Mungret , Kilmallock and Newcastle West.
