Horticulture



The Main Activities of Limerick County Council's Horticultural Section are:

1. Maintain approximately 491 acres of lawn grass in 345 estates which is cut 32 times a year.

2. Maintain amenity areas as follows:

  • Clare Glens
  • Adare Town Park + River Bank Walk
  • Lough Gur
  • The Demesne, Newcastlewest

3. Control/handling of herbicides(As used by all Council Sections).

4. Overseeing tree felling under licence (Provide Advice on Tree Felling of Roadside Trees).

5. Overseeing of planting of roadside verges with Trees/Shrubs (750,000 trees planted in the last 12 years).

6. Advising Communities Councils on Landscaping for Tidy Towns.

7. Grasscutting and Hegecutting on National Primary and National Secondary roads.

8. Clean up of illegally dumped materials at litter blackspots.

9. Organisation and distribution of trees during National Tree Week.

10. Judging of Garden and Estate competitions.

11. Maintenance and clean up of Bottle Bank areas.
