High Usage

What if usage on the meter is higher than normal?

Turn off all taps/stopcocks etc and check the meter. If the (red) dial in the centre of the meter is still turning there is water passing through the meter and this may mean that there is a leak.

An average water meter will look like the picture below. On top, you will see the serial number, eg 07M244508. There will be 5 digits in black on a white background, and 2 (or 3) in white on red background. The black digits are cubic meters (m³). You are charged based on reading of these 5 digits. In the middle is one red dial, which will rotate if water is running through the meter. The faster this spins, the more water is being used.

You will need to check pipe-work, toilets, sinks, cattle troughs etc. to see if a leak can be found. You may have to contact a Plumber to detect and then fix the leak. If you do find a leak please inform our offices in writing of the presence of the leak, the date it has been fixed and the billing period to which the leak relates using the Leak Application Form.

If no leak is found, the water has been used and must be paid for.
