Household Battery Recycling

Small household batteries can be very easily recycled at a number of locations across the county. Batteries should not be disposed of in household wheelie bins as they can be environmentally damaging when the casing on the battery begins to disintegrate.

Collection points for household batteries have been established at all area offices (Annacotty, Croom, Kilmallock, Newcastle West and Rathkeale) and the following libraries/information centres:

Abbeyfeale Library,
Adare Heritage Centre,
Dooradoyle Library,
Foynes Library
Newcastlewest Library.

Most schools have now received a battery recycling box from the Council and pupils are collecting batteries for recycling as part of the green school's programme.   Check with your local school to see if you can drop off your batteries there as well.
If you use a lot of batteries for toys or household appliances or personal equipment such as digital cameras, why not consider investing in a rechargeable batteries & a recharger? Initially the cost is more expensive than single use batteries, but the batteries can be recharged over and over which is better for the environment and will save you money over time.
