Adare & Patrickswell Sewerage Scheme

The Adare Patrickswell Sewerage Scheme is included in the Water Services Investment Programme 2007-2009. The scheme involves the pumping of wastewater from both settlements to the Limerick Main Drainage system where treatment will be carried out at the treatment plant located at Bunlicky. The scheme will involve the construction of main pumping stations at both Patrickswell and Adare.

The consortiums of White Young Green/ JB Barry & Partners Ltd were appointed to prepare contract documents for the overall scheme in 2005. In October 2007 Limerick County Council obtained approval to proceed with the Patrickswell element of the scheme only at this stage (Stage 1 of Adare- Patrickswell).

During 2007 the existing Sewage Treatment Plant in Adare was upgraded by a private developer under the Council’s Small Towns & Villages Initiative. This upgraded plant caters for a population equivalent of 2,500 people and can be easily extended to a population equivalent of 3,000 if necessary. It should be noted that this upgraded plant is on a temporary basis only and the permanent solution will be provided via the Adare-Patrickswell Major Capital scheme involving the construction of a foul pumping station in Adare and the pumping of all effluent to the Limerick Main Drainage Treatment Plant at Bunlicky.

The Patrickswell element (Adare-Patrickswell Phase 1) includes for the construction of new foul and surface water sewers to collect wastewaters and storm flows and the construction of a new pumping station at Barnakyle with an associated rising main along the old Limerick road to the existing Limerick Main Drainage sewer network at Raheen roundabout. The civil works contract and the Mechanical & Electrical contract have both been tendered.

Tenders have been received and are being assessed, subject to the availability of funding.
