The above Four Towns Grouped Sewerage Scheme was included in the 2005-2007 Water Services Investment Programme as a scheme to advance through Planning. The consortium of Doran & DeLap Waller, Consulting Engineers, Belfast was appointed by Limerick County Council, subject to approval of the DoEHLG in January 2006. Formal approval to this appointment was received from the DoEHLG in July 2006.
These four towns are included in the current 2007-2009 Water Services Investment Programme as schemes start in 2009.
This preliminary report presented costed proposals and solutions in respect of the construction, replacement, upgrading and augmentation of the wastewater collection and treatment systems for approval by Limerick County Council and DoEHLG prior to the commencement of detailed design.
The Capital cost estimate for all four towns is €19.9 million at August 2008 values.
New Wastewater Treatment Plants are to be constructed at Pallasgreen, Dromcollogher and a new plant in Herbertstown to cater for the combined Hospital-Herbertstown future flows. Additional capacity is to be provided at the at the Bruff treatment plant site.
The Preliminary report was forwarded to the Department of Environment, Heritage & Local Government in August 2008 for approval.
