Mungret Sewerage Scheme is included in the Water Services Investment Programme 2007-2009 by the Department of Environment, Heritage and Local Government.
Mungret Sewerage Scheme is designed to collect wastewater from in and around the village of Mungret, County Limerick. There is no existing foul sewerage in the village. Individual properties currently dispose of foul wastewater to domestic wastewater treatment systems (septic tanks) and surface water to soak ways/drains. There are local surface water sewers collecting rainwater from road gullies that will be replaced during the construction of this new scheme.
This new scheme provides for the construction of new foul and surface water sewers. The foul sewers will discharge to a trunk sewer constructed as a part of the limerick Main drainage Scheme. This trunk sewer will convey the wastewater on for treatment at the Wastewater Treatment Plant at Bunlicky, constructed under the Limerick Main drainage Scheme.
The surface water sewers will discharge to an existing surface water channel, which in turn discharges to Bunlicky Lake.
There are sections of the Scheme already constructed by others and that will be incorporated into Mungret Sewerage Scheme.
Mungret Sewerage Scheme also includes the provision of new water connections to a recently constructed water main.
The project generally involves the following;
- The provision of circa 85 No. water supply connections to an existing 300mm diameter waterman.
- Decommissioning of existing 100mm and 125mm diameter water mains.
- Installation of approximately 4,807m of new gravity foul and surface water sewers in roads and wayleaves, ranging from 225mm diameter to 900mm diameter by open trench construction techniques.
- The provision of house connections from the foul sewers in roads to the cartilage of each property
- The demolition of existing foul septic tanks in private gardens and the connection of existing house drains
- New road gullies and connections to the new storm sewers
- The construction of 94 Nr. inspection manholes
- The construction of 5 Nr. ventilation columns
The scheme will be procured as a Traditional Form of Contract.
The estimated cost for the scheme as in Water Services Investment Programme 2007-2009 is €4.944million.
Tenders have been received from 24 tenderers and a tender report is being prepared.
Following acceptance of the tender report, a submission will be made to the Department of Environment, Heritage and Local Government in accordance with Circular L05/09
