Limerick 5 towns (Askeaton,Athea,Shanagolden,Glin and Foynes) Sewerage Scheme is included in the Water Services Investment Programme 2007-2009 by the Department of Environment, Heritage and Local Government. The 5 towns’ Sewerage Scheme project consists of the West Limerick towns of Askeaton, Athea, Foynes, Glin and Shanagolden.
Currently the sewerage facilities in the town are inadequate and as part of the scheme
The towns are to be provided with wastewater facilities to serve their existing and future requirements. The five town scheme involves the construction of 4 new Waste Water Treatment Plants (WWTP), refurbishment of existing sewers and the construction of new sewers, 6 new pumping stations and pumped rising mains.
The overall scheme will cater for a future population loading of 11000PE in 20 years time.
The Consultants estimates for the overall scheme is approximately € 23.35m, the scheme by scheme breakdown of this cost is set out in Table 1 below.

The preliminary report for the project was submitted to the department in September 2008 and Limerick County Council are awaiting approval to proceed to the detailed design stage
